ACCESS BY CAR
From San Jose
The shortest route is to take the Inter-American Highway south to San Isidro El General. This will take you over the Cerro de la Muerte, the highest point on the inter-American highway – 3200m (10,400 feet). This road tends to get cloudy and rainy in the afternoons. When you reach San Isidro watch for a sign indicating the road to Dominical. Turn right, drive through town and follow the road 37Km to the intersection of the coastal road. At this junction turn right on to the dirt road signed towards Quepos. Hacienda Barú is 3Km up this road. You will find our entrance immediately after the Gas Station on the left. The whole journey takes between 4 and 5 hours.
From Quepos
The 45 Km between Quepos and Dominical is currently still a dirt road, though it is well maintained and no problem in a 2 wheel drive. The journey takes around 1½ hours. You will find Hacienda Barú´s entrance on the right, 3Km after the village of Hatillo, immediately before the Gas Station.From Uvita and the South Coast
The coast road south from Dominical is paved. Coming from the south, Hacienda Baru is 3 Km after Dominical on the road to Quepos.

ACCESS BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT
From San Jose
The easiest and safest way is a combination of Bus and Taxi. There is a very good bus service (MUSOC) from San Jose to San Isidro that leaves every hour on the half hour between 5.30 AM and 5.30 PM. The journey takes around 3 hours and is a direct service. It is advisable to take a taxi to the “MUSOC” bus terminal in San Jose. Get there at least half an hour before the bus leaves, as they fill up fast. You can buy tickets in advance but only from the bus station.Once you arrive in San Isidro, the most convinient way to us is by taxi. A taxi from San Isidro to Hacienda Barú should cost around $25 to $30 or c13000– c15,000.
If you want to take the bus from San Isidro ask for the bus station for the Dominical bus. The bus times are as follows:

Buses with destination Quepos go passed the entrance to Hacienda Barú after passing through Dominical. If you come on the bus with destination Uvita you will need to get off in Dominical and take a cab to Hacienda Barú, which should cost you no more than c1500.
A taxi all the way to Hacienda Barú from San Jose will cost a minimum of $130

From Quepos
This 45 km is still dirt road and consequently an expensive taxi route, $75 being the standard charge. The bus takes almost 2 hours and will stop at the entrance to Hacienda Barú if you ask the driver. Keep a look out for our sign on the right and the gas station immediately after. The bus driver will stop at the entrance. Below are the bus times from Quepos.

Buses coming from Quepos can be caught at the entrance to Hacienda Barú. It is advisable to arrive at the bus stop 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
Local bus schedules are available in all the local English speaking newspapers.
Please be vigilant with your belongings on all busses in Costa Rica. If you have large bags in the hold, keep a good eye on what goes on and off the buses when it makes stops. Unfortunately petty theft is common place.
