Superior Rooms

Superior Rooms with a view of the rainforest an ozone purified pool.

Hacienda Barú Lodge is now offering six new pool view guest rooms. Each unit has a king size bed and a single bed (bedding configuration can be changed according to guests’ needs), a large bathroom with hot water shower and a safe.

Your front porch is a great place for early morning and afternoon reading, bird watching and coffee drinking.  The attractive tile roofing is actually made from recycled plastic bags. A well ventilated design, insulation between the roofing and the polished teak ceiling, and overhead fans all insure cool comfort for our guests. Not a single piece of the wood used came from a natural forest.

All of the teak and gmelina wood used in the construction came from Hacienda Barú's own plantations. The wood for the pine beams and furniture all came from plantations as well. Solar heaters provide plenty of hot water for the bathrooms.

When we built these superior rooms we decided to go ahead and put it a new swimming pool which is right across from the new rooms. Our pool at Hacienda Baru lodge works with an Ozone Purification System and uses only 1/10 of the amount of chlorine that a regular pool would use. Our guests are certainly enjoying a cool dip after hiking in the jungle or a run on the beach.

Our lodge sits right inside the Hacienda Baru National Wildlife Refuge, with a view of the forest behind, across and up on the mountain side. Three kilometers of beach and the Pacific Ocean are just a short walk from your front door. (Hot Climate).

Hocus and Pocus - Strange, creeper cats

- By Jack Ewing

When I first laid eyes on the two black kittens a quote from a Robert Heinlein novel popped into my mind,. It has been so many years ago since I read it that I can't even remember which one is was, but I remember the quote. In referring to a complex subject Heinlein said that making sense of it was “... like searching in a dark cellar at midnight on a moonless night for a black cat that isn't there.” These two kittens were that black without a hint of any other color. Even their eyes were black. In addition to their extreme blackness there was always an air of mysteriousness about them. They didn't walk like ordinary cats, rather they walked all crouched down, more of a creep than a walk, like they were constantly stalking something. They never made any noises other than purring; they never clawed the furniture; they were never underfoot and never got into trouble of any kind. There was always something strange about them. We named them Hocus and Pocus.

Capuchin Capers

The troop of 26 monkeys was strung out over about 100 meters, moving through the forest. The lead monkey, a mature female, came to an area where the tree cover was broken by an open swamp with only a narrow corridor two trees wide going around it.
